Fuga delle Sirene

7-channel audio
    Duration: 53'' (played in loop)
A digital animation accompanied by a soundscape inspired by the Siren episode from book 12 of the Odyssey.
The Sirens were depicted as birds in antiquity. In this video, Pavlina is moving away from female associations with the Sirens and is emphasizing their avian nature.
The bird is an ancient symbol of transcendence, the soul, a spirit of the dead with an ability to communicate with gods or enter into a higher state of consciousness, thought, knowledge and imagination. In the Odyssey, the Siren-bird represents the entrapment of the mind. A metaphorical transfixion where our ego is endlessly recycled.
    Vocals: Pavlina Vagioni
Reverb effects: Vasilis Kountouris, Studio 19st
    Animation collaborator: Tasos Tsiampoulas
Special thanks to Marc Franklin from "The Oceania Project" for the permission to use his whale song field recordings.
